Unless you’ve been on a remote island, you’ve probably heard about ChatGPT and other generative AI tools that can create text and images from prompts. If you use Google or Microsoft products, you may have noticed the introduction of these types of AI tools. Even Canva is using AI for creation.
Today we’re going to take a look at some of the more … um … interesting applications of artificial intelligence.
Bot Rock
One new trend is creating rock bands with AI. Not just images of rock bands – but music, too! Check out these articles for more information:

Around the House
Colgate and Oral B have both come out with AI Toothbrushes that monitor your brushing patterns and offer suggestions via an app.
According to the Miso Robotics website, Flippy the burger robot is “a ground-breaking, smart commercial kitchen robot that fries items from French fries to chicken nuggets, and works alongside humans to enhance quality and consistency, while creating substantial, measurable cost savings for restaurants.
If you’re having trouble with snoring or sleeping, how about an AI Mattress that can sense sleep patterns and adjust firmness, support, and temperature to help keep you comfortable? It can also track your vitals as you sleep.
Get in Touch with Your Pet
Detect pet emotions (cat pain detector and see below)
Petpuls is a wearable tracker for dogs that can report on your dog’s activities and mood. Some apps can be used with felines, such as Tably, which claims to determine your cat’s emotions by their facial expressions. For more about how using smart pet technology may affect our bonds with our pets, check out this Washington Post article.
Making the World a Better Place
While the previous items may be handy tools or interesting experiments, I did run into a couple of AI applications that have the potential to save the world, or at least make it a better place.
You may have heard that scientists are worried about the future of bees, and by extension, the future of our whole ecosystem. Robotic bees are being developed to help fill in the pollination gaps left by colony collapse syndrome. Here are a couple of articles with more information:
- Builtin’s overview
- Wyss Institute (Harvard) experiment page
Another product I found was billed as a companion for the elderly. Not only does ELLI.Q offer conversation, games, medication reminders, vitals monitoring, and exercise, it also provides an easy way to connect with others through video or audio calling.
Summary
AI is a new frontier, and tech companies are experimenting with many possible integrations into our lives. These are just a few of the many, many AI projects out there. If you’re interested in seeing what else is out there, There’s an AI For That attempts to track and organize completed AI projects, as well as some in progress. In case you missed them, here are other articles from this blog that have highlighted AI.
