Spotlight on Gale LegalForms

Patrons from all walks of life ask us for legal form templates. We have books with reproducible forms, but they tend to go missing or become outdated faster than we can repurchase them. Thanks to Gale LegalForms, we can provide professionally written legal forms (including NY-specific forms) that can be downloaded to your preferred device.

Subjects include real estate, wills, power of attorney, bankruptcy, small business, and more! LegalForms also provides tools like checklists, legal definitions, a law digest, and an attorney directory, among other things.

How to Use LegalForms

The company that provides LegalForms to libraries has created an excellent guide showing how to get the most of this resource. I will embed it below. Click the “Download” button to save it to your computer. Below the embed, there is a link to additional training materials, including webinars, videos, and tip sheets.

Training Materials – Webinars, tip sheets, and tutorials to help you get the most out of this resource.

We have also created a help video.

How Do I Access It?

You can use the link at the beginning of this article, or head to colonielibrary.org/research, then click “Gale LegalForms”

The first time you hit the landing page, you may get a popup asking for location access. Because this database is available to any New York State resident, allowing location access will allow you to log in without your library barcode/account number.

For more information about the library’s online resources, visit https://www.colonielibrary.org/research and https://www.colonielibrary.org/digital-collections.

Bonus Tip

Have you given any thought to managing your online accounts after you pass away? Many email, social media, and other online service platforms allow you to designate a legacy contact who has permission to access your accounts in the event of your death. To learn more, see our post on Digital Executors and Legacy Contacts.
