Welcome to another post in our series on managing AI on multiple platforms. This week, we’ll focus on some popular social media platforms.
How to turn off Meta AI on Facebook app
While you aren’t able to remove Meta AI from Facebook, you can mute the chatbot for a set period of time or indefinitely:
- Open the Facebook app.
- Tap the blue-gradient circle at the top of the page to access the search bar.
- Tap the blue arrow to the right of the search bar, then tap the “i” icon > Mute.
- Choose how long you’d like to mute the Meta AI chat, or select Until I change it to mute it indefinitely
On a desktop, use mbasic.facebook.com. If you want to use Meta AI, but you are concerned about privacy, you can ask Meta to refrain from saving your information with this contact form.
How to get rid of My AI on the Instagram app
Similarly to Facebook, the Instagram app uses Meta AI and you can’t turn it off completely. But you can mute the chatbot.
- Open the Instagram app.
- Tap the blue-gradient circle at the top of the page to access the search bar.
- Tap the blue arrow to the right of the search bar, then tap the “i” icon > Mute > Mute messages.
- Choose how long you’d like to mute the Meta AI chat for, or select Until I change it to mute it indefinitely.
How to remove AI on the Snapchat app
Snapchat works a little differently. Instead of Meta AI, it uses My AI, and unlike Facebook’s AI chatbot, there are ways to get rid of My AI on Snapchat entirely. Currently, the only way to remove their chatbot is by purchasing a Snapchat+ membership. If you’ve sprung for a premium membership, all you have to do is hold My AI in Chat, then tap Chat Settings > Clear from Chat Feed.
If you don’t have a premium account, you can still block My AI from accessing your stories and saving your data.
How to remove My AI from your Stories
- Open the Snapchat app and open the Chats tab.
- Press and hold My AI.
- Tap Privacy Settings, then turn off My Story.
How to delete data saved on My AI
- Open the Snapchat app.
- Tap the profile icon.
Go to privacy controls, then tap Clear Data > Clear My AI Data.
How to remove AI on LinkedIn
AI is only available to Premium LinkedIn users, so you may not see these features on a free account. Be sure to only sign up for the premium tier with features you want, because there is no simple way to turn off LinkedIn’s AI.
The Recruiter section is the only place where there is a direct option to turn off AI. It’s available at both the admin and seat levels.
To turn off AI-assisted messages in LinkedIn Recruiter’s admin tools, hover over your profile on your Recruiter homepage and click Product Settings. Navigate to Company Settings > Preferences in the left rail and click Edit under Enable AI-assisted message auto-draft. Toggle AI-assisted messages Off and click save.
To turn off AI-assisted messages on Recruiter’s seat level, hover over your profile on your Recruiter homepage, select Product Setting from the dropdown menu, then click Messaging under My Account settings on the left rail. Click Edit under Enable AI-assisted auto-draft, toggle the feature off, and click Save.
Most of the rest of the AI features are easy to ignore, such as the “Write with AI” prompt in your profile. If you create a message using the messaging window in the bottom right, the AI prompt will not appear.
Summary
Social media is everywhere these days, and let’s be real, it’s a love/hate relationship for many of us. The rise of AI on social platforms has only added fuel to the fire, stirring up more mixed feelings. If you’re not a fan of AI, the tips mentioned above can help you navigate its role on social media in a way that works best for you.
