Many people, myself included, can get overwhelmed by digital clutter. I’m forever taking pictures, downloading files, and saving browser bookmarks without taking the time to cull and organize them. Finding the right photo later can be a real chore even with the helpful automatic AI tagging feature in Google Photos. Ditto that document with a nonsensical file name that was so important when I saved it.
Whether you call it laziness or life moving faster than it can be organized, the folks at Tech-Talk have created some helpful articles, videos, and webinars to help you create meaningful file names and folder structures that will help manage what you already have, as well as making it easy to save future items in a way they can be easily found, rather than as part of a massive dump in your downloads folder. Webinars
Webinars are hour-long videos that are recordings of live presentations from Tech-Talk. In addition to the recording, the landing page often includes supplementary information, including handouts. If you would like to view future webinars live, check our event calendar for dates. I started with this category because there is a fantastic two-part webinar series that outlines the fundamentals of creating file names and folder hierarchies that make sense.
- Part 1: Files and Desktop
- Part 2: Naming and Grouping Files
There is also a Simplify Your Computer Desktop webinar, which has a focus on folders both cloud and local storage. This Desktop and Email webinar covers some of the same principles but from a different person’s perspective.
If you’d rather focus on email organization, try Email: Taking Control of It.
