If you have an Android phone, you probably use Google Photos to manage and back up the photos on your phone. Not only is this app also available for iPhone/iPad, but it’s so much more than a photo manager!
Memories/Spotlights
One of my favorite features of Google Photos is an algorithm that identifies images that are alike and groups them together. I recently noticed a highlight at the top of the page in my app called “Spotlight on Sugar.” I have a cat named Sugar, and as you can imagine, it automatically found and grouped my photos of Sugar into a slideshow. It’s not perfect, as a couple of shots of my other cat with similar coloring were mixed in, but if I wanted to group these images into an album manually, it would be a significant time investment.
Some other “spotlights” at the top of my page include “spotlight on a day”, “8 years since…”, and “revisit the moment.”

This is just one of many features of Google Photos. Tech-Talk has created a webinar to highlight and demonstrate these additional features:
- Create and edit videos
- Make photo collages and animations
- Get creative with edits and apply the same ones to multiple images
- Blur a background
- Access your photos through your Google account on a computer
- Search by people, places, objects, and dates
- Search by a person’s (or pet’s) headshot
- Use locked folders for sensitive images
- Using and controlling what shows in Memories
- Using Google Lens
