For folks who want to speak with staff members at the library, but are frustrated by a language barrier, we have a new service to assist. Language Line allows library staff to get real-time translation services for users of ASL and speakers of other languages to help with their library questions.
Here is an example of the language identification guide a staff member will present to a patron, asking them to choose their preferred language.
The staff member will then contact Language Line and initiate a translation session. For an audio session, we have a phone with two handsets that allow the translator to hear both the staff member and the patron at the same time. Video sessions (ASL) use a laptop.
If you or someone you know needs this service, please visit the Information Desk.
