Summer reading programs at the library aren’t just for kids anymore! Adults can log their reading progress to win prizes, too. This year, the summer reading theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library. If you like reading books and winning prizes, you can register and get started beginning on June 25th. You can track your reading progress on paper or with ReadSquared online. This article will show you how to use ReadSquared.
Register for the Summer Reading Challenge
If you come to the library for our Summer Reading Kickoff, or in the weeks following, you can sign up at the library. If you would prefer to sign yourself up, here are the steps:
- Go to colonielibrary.org and click on the summer reading challenge image, or go directly to the ReadSquared logging site.
- Under the login box, click on Register now
- If registering multiple people, select “Myself and other readers” and set up the parent’s account first. To set up an individual account, select “Myself.”
Linking Registrants
Linking allows a primary account (parent) to log in to their account and then toggle between family members for reporting.
- After the primary/parent account is established, continue to add readers. If you originally signed up as an individual and want to add people later, log in and select Account>Add Reader

- Choose to add a new reader, or “Link existing reader” if the child already has an account. You will need their password to add them.
- Optionally enter a username and password to allow the secondary user(s) to log their own progress.
Log Reading Activity
Logging your reading activity once per week enters you in a weekly prize drawing. There are separate drawings for adults, teens, and kids. Optionally, you can check in with our volunteers at the library and pick a smaller prize on the spot. You are welcome to report more than once per week, but you will only get one prize/prize entry per week. You will be notified if you win a prize.
- Log into your account and click on Log
- If you aren’t linked to any other accounts, you will only see options available for your account. If you have linked other accounts, you will see options for everyone:
- Select an option. On the next page, you will see all accounts.
- If an account is not eligible to log what you selected, you will see a circle with a line through it
over the name. If the account is eligible, you will see a red X
. Click on the account you are logging to change the red X to a green check
.
- Enter your reading progress and click Submit
- Optionally repeat to log additional progress for that account or a linked account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to read books? You can read anything, including audiobooks.
What do I keep track of? Kids and teens track minutes read, and at least one title. Adults log the number of books and articles read, and their titles.
Should I log online or on paper? You can do either, but not both. If you use paper, you must come to the library weekly to report your progress to get a prize/be entered for a prize that week.
How do I win prizes? Check in weekly at the library to get a physical prize and be entered in a drawing or log your progress online to be entered in the weekly drawing. You will be notified if you win a weekly prize drawing. To claim your prize, report to the Children’s Services desk.
