Quickly Search a Webpage Using the Find in Page Tool

In a previous post, we featured the find-and-replace tool in Microsoft Office/Google Docs, which can help you find buried information or bulk-edit documents. The same CTRL+F (PC)/CMD+F (Mac) keyboard shortcut can also be used to find keywords in a browser. But did you know all major browsers also have a “find in page” tool in the menu to help you search webpages quickly? Read on to find this feature in your favorite desktop or mobile browser.

Google Chrome

This process is the same whether you use Chrome in a browser or the mobile app.

  • Click or tap the menu icon in the upper or lower right (next to the website address)
  • Scroll down to “Find in page” or “Find and edit” and select it
  • Type your keyword(s) in the blank entry field that appears, and enter

Use the arrows to navigate between instances of your keyword, which are highlighted for easy navigation.

Mozilla Firefox

The find process in Firefox is almost identical to Chrome. Click or tap the menu icon, then select “Find in page.” Type in your keyword(s) and enter. Navigate the highlighted results using the arrows.

Safari

The Safari browser uses different methods for finding text on a webpage between MacOS (desktop/laptop) and iOS (iPhone/iPad).

MacOS

  • With Safari open, click the icon screenshot of the find icon to the left of the Smart Search (web address) field
  • Choose Find
  • Type the text to search for
  • Click the pop-up, then choose to search for text that contains or begins with what you enter
  • Click < or > to navigate between each matching result
  • Click Done when finished

iOS

Before iOS 18, tapping the share button would bring up a Find on Page option. Here are the instructions for iOS 18:

  • With Safari open, click the icon screenshot of the find icon to the left of the Smart Search (web address) field
  • Click on the search icon icon resembling a page with a magnifying glass in the lower right corner
  • Type the text to search for
  • Use the up and down arrows to the right of the search bar to navigate between each matching result.

Microsoft Edge

Like Google Chrome, the page search function is accessed by clicking the menu icon (three dots) in the upper-right corner of the browser window. Then select Find on page. Enter your keyword(s) in the field and use the up and down arrows to navigate between each matching result.

Summary

It’s easy to search all of the text on a webpage by using the find in page search function available in all modern browsers.
