The library has a new self-service checkout station near the staffed checkout desk. You can use it to skip the line, avoid small talk, or check your account details privately. The machine can also be used to release print jobs when paying with a credit card. Read on to learn more about how to use it to check out items or pay fees.
Check Out
The self-checkout kiosk can only be used to check out books. If you have other media items or have items on hold to pick up, you’ll need to go to the staffed checkout desk.
Start by tapping Check Out Materials on the touchscreen.

Scan your library card (or library barcode on a phone screen) by facing it to the barcode reader:

Or type your library barcode number using the keyboard on the screen:

At the Check Out Materials screen, place no more than four (4) items in a pile on the scanning pad:

Confirm all items were scanned and checked out before moving the pile off the pad and scanning the next pile. When finished, choose whether to get a receipt and whether to print or email the receipt. If your email address is in our system, the email field will already be filled in. If not, or if the address is not the one you want to use, enter the correct email in the field using the on-screen keyboard.
Pay Fines
The vending machine accepts up to $20 in cash per transaction, with a maximum bill denomination of $5. If you have fines totaling more than $5, you will not be allowed to check out until they are paid.
Select View and Pay My Fines

If prompted, scan or enter your library card number.
Tap Pay Now at the bottom of the screen:

Choose a payment method. “Vending device” means cash.

Follow the prompts to pay with cash or credit. When you receive a success message, you can print and/or email the receipt, or select “none” to end the transaction.

Summary
We have added a self-service checkout machine, but we will still maintain a fully staffed checkout desk. Using the machine is simple, but optional.
