The library subscribes to an online tech training tool called Tech-Talk. If you’re not familiar with Tech-Talk, check out our introductory post about Tech-Talk. You can browse the latest articles and videos, or you can search by keyword or subject to find training on a specific tool or subject. A separate feature allows you to subscribe to a weekly tech tips via email.
The folks at Tech-Talk are always innovating and trying to find better ways to connect you with the information you need. Recently, they implemented two updates to improve the user experience.
Individual Logins
By default, our users can go to Tech-Talk.com and enter “colonie” (all lowercase, no quotes) as both the username and the password to access the system. Recently, Google Chrome started popping up warnings for some users indicating that this shared password might be compromised. While we know that’s not true, it’s also not common for so many people to share a password – so Chrome gets nervous.
While you can click OK to dismiss the warning, you may find this tedious if you visit Tech-Talk often. To avoid the warning, you can now sign up for an individual account where you can control the password. If you are interested in signing up for an individual account, complete the form on this page. If you’d like to sign up for the tech tip email newsletter, you can use the link in the welcome email for your individual account, or you can visit the newsletter signup page.
New “Basic” Level Newsletter
Until now, all Tech-Talk newsletter subscribers received the same content when they signed up for the tech tip newsletter. Based on user feedback, Tech-Talk now offers a second newsletter geared toward beginner users. To sign up for either (or both!) newsletter(s), head to the newsletter signup page and fill out the short form. (Shown below) Your information will ONLY be used to send you to the newsletter – Tech-Talk values your privacy.

Summary
Tech-Talk heard your feedback and responded by creating individual accounts to improve security, and by introducing a new level of newsletter to serve tech beginners. Do you have ideas for features you’d like to see in Tech-Talk? Or a subject you’d like them to cover? Use the Tech-Talk contact form to let them know what’s on your mind.
