We often get reference questions that involve folks looking for test preparation books. Whether it’s high school equivalency tests, college entrance exams, civil service tests, or other vocational tests – this subject is very popular. It’s also one where printed resources can go out of date (or missing) quickly. Thanks to Peterson’s Test and Career Prep, we can provide these resources online to all of our patrons simultaneously. And they are always up to date.
It’s Not Just Practice Tests
For students in high school, college, and beyond, Peterson’s offers test prep resources, practice tests, college planning, financial aid tools, career overviews, international tools, and more! If you’re a job seeker, try the career assessments and overviews, resume and cover letter editing tools, practice exams, and the job search.
How to Use Peterson’s
The company that provides Peterson’s to libraries has already created an excellent guide for getting started and saving your progress. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I will embed it here. Click the “Download” button to save it to your computer. Below the embed, there is a link to additional training materials, including webinars, videos, and tip sheets.
Training Materials – Webinars, tip sheets, and tutorials to help you get the most out of this resource.

How Do I Access It?
You can use the link at the beginning of this article, or head to our research page, then scroll down and click “Jobs and Colleges.” The link at the top of that page will take you to the Peterson’s landing page. Creating an individual account is optional, but useful if you plan to come back and use it again.
The first time you hit the landing page, you may get a popup asking for location access. Because this database is available to any New York State resident, allowing location access will allow you to log in without your library barcode/account number.
For more information about the library’s online resources, visit our Research page and our Digital Collections page.
