The Library That Never Closes: Explore Our Digital Collection

I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying a safe holiday season. The library closes at 5 today and remains closed through Christmas, so it seemed like a good time to remind everyone about all of the digital services we offer that are available 24/7.

Newspapers

Links to the most popular newspapers are on our library’s homepage, as well as our Research page. You will need your Colonie resident library card to log in outside the library. It’s worth noting that getting the New York Times involves a couple of extra steps. Here is a quick list of links to the resources themselves:

You can also get text-only articles for The Economist from our Gale database. If prompted, agree to provide location access to avoid entering your library barcode. Here’s how:

  • Click the Gale database link on our research page and select “General OneFile”
  • Click “Advanced Search” under the main search box

  • Search for The Economist in “publication title”

  • Scroll down and enter a date to see that day’s articles

  • Click the blue search button at the bottom to get a list of articles.

If you’re searching for Wall Street Journal articles for our region of the country, “Wall Street Journal Eastern Edition” is also available, but only articles from 2023 and earlier are included.

Magazines

We have three resources that provide magazines.

E-Books and E-Audiobooks

Use your library card to check out digital titles from Libby or Hoopla. In case you missed them, we have lots of past posts about Libby and Hoopla to help you navigate them.

Other Digital Resources

Here is a quick rundown of the other digital resources you can access when we are closed. Some require a resident library card number.

Please note that many of these resources are available in multiple languages.
