How to Export Your Lists from the Library Catalog

NOTE: This article refers to our previous public catalog, Encore. Links in this post may be broken or redirected to our new catalog.

If you are a power user of our online catalog, you are likely familiar with the “lists” feature that allows you to save items found in the catalog. I use lists to track my To Be Read list and To Be Watched list. You may have other ways you like to use it. If you’re not familiar with using lists in our catalog, you can learn more on our account help page, in the My Lists section.

Users of the lists feature may want to export their lists to enter into a different software platform, such as Goodreads. Or, if you’re moving away, you may want to take your lists with you to use at your new library. Whatever your reasons are for exporting lists, doing so is easy.

Log Into Your Account

To log into your account, go to https://catalog.uhls.org and select Login. This is either a blue button at the top of the page (desktop browser) or a small text link at the bottom of the page (mobile).

Enter your card number (no spaces) and your PIN. If you’re not sure of your PIN, try the last four digits of the phone number you used when you registered for your library card. If that doesn’t work, library staff can reset it for you.

If you’d like to watch a video or see screenshots of this process, check out our account help page in the Accessing Your Account section.

Export a List

After logging in, click My Account. The menu on this page (left side for desktop and top of page for mobile) has a My Lists entry. Select it.

Next, select the list you’d like export:

At the top of the list, select Export List:

You can either print the next page for the simple list, or you can select the amount of detail you want at the top of the page:

My suggestion would be the brief display, as the full display includes everything you see when you click on the title, including the description.

You can also select how to deliver the export. The options are email, screen (new tab), and local disk (save as a text file):

After saving and/or printing your list, you’re done!

Bonus Activity!

If you have opted in to save your checkout history, you can export that, too. Just select Reading History under My Lists in the menu:

Then select Export Reading History from the top menu:

The formatting and sending options are the same as exporting other lists.

Summary

The library catalog makes it easy to back up your custom lists to use in other ways and on other platforms. Even if you don’t need to move your lists, it’s a good idea to export them every so often to save them in a safe place. For more tips on using your online account, see our Account Help page.
